Colgate to Use CBD in Oral Care Products

Personal care giant Colgate-Palmolive has reportedly launched and patented three new oral care formulas with CBD as the active ingredient for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Colgate-Palmolive will use the cannabinoid CBD alongside an acceptable oral carrier, as stated in the three patents. The three oral care formulations can be used to make a wide range of oral care products consisting of toothpaste, oral gels, chewing gums, mouthwash, and mouth spray, among others.

Negligence in oral care can give way to a variety of dental issues. According to the statements published by the company, these cannabinoid blends are aimed at improving oral health. Moreover, the patents also say that there is a possibility the company could make use of cannabinoids other than CBD and incorporate THC in the mix. However, the products will not contain any more than 0.3% THC, which is in accordance with the existing guidelines for full-spectrum cannabis products.

Furthermore, the company stated that the cannabinoids could be sourced from hemp and cannabis plants alike.

At the start of last year, Colgate-Palmolive acquired Hello Products, a company offering a range of CBD-infused oral and personal care products. Based in New Jersey, Hello Products launched its line of CBD products last year, featuring around seven products. They have upwards of 44,000 retail locations in the US and were acquired by Colgate-Palmolive due to their ‘nature-friendliness.’

All of their products are made with broad-spectrum hemp oil sourced locally from US hemp farms.

With many big players jumping on to the cannabis bandwagon, it makes perfect sense that titans like Colgate-Palmolive would follow suit. Could CBD toothpaste be the next big thing? Only time will tell.
